CHAPTER BYLAWS

 

 

Article I- Meetings

 

SECTION 1.  SCHEDULE

The stated meetings of the Chapter shall be held at the Peachtree City Masonic Center, 201 Whitlock Place, Peachtree City, GA 30269, every 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at seven o'clock p.m. unless otherwise stated by the Master Councilor of the chapter during his term.

 

SECTION 2.  ABSENCES

Absence of any officer from three consecutive meetings of the Chapter, without approved excuse by the Chairman of the Advisory Council or the Chapter Advisor, creates a vacancy in the office.

 

SECTION 3.  DRESS CODE

All members shall dress appropriately for all meetings as to promote the image of DeMolay:  During the winter term (September-March); dark slacks, dress shirt, tie, and dress shoes; during the summer term (March-September); slacks (light or dark), chapter polo shirt, dress shoes.

 

Article II- Officers

 

SECTION 1.  TERM OF OFFICE

The Master Councilor, Senior Councilor and Junior Councilor of the chapter shall be elected every six months at the first regularly scheduled meeting day of August & February.

 

SECTION 2.  REQUIREMENTS FOR HOLDING OFFICE

(a)  In order for a member to hold an office in the chapter, all personal debts to the chapter must be paid and the member must have passed both his Initiatory and DeMolay Degree queries.


(b)  The member must enroll in the Leadership Correspondence Course, if not previously taken, Part 1 (or the next part not previously completed) and complete this part within his term in order to be eligible to advance to the next office.


(c)  Members intending to run for the office of Master Councilor, Senior Councilor, Junior Councilor or Scribe must submit one typed letter of intent.

 


SECTION 3.  LETTER OF INTENT

(a)  The letter of intent must explain the candidate's qualifications and justification for running for the intended office.


(b)  The letter should be submitted to the Advisory Council at least one month prior to the elections.


(c)  The submitted letters of intent for each office will be read twice in open chapter:  the first reading to occur one business meeting prior to the election, and the second reading to occur at the election meeting.

 

SECTION 4.  VOTING ELIGIBLITY

A member must have passed both his Initiatory and DeMolay Degree queries to be eligible to vote in the election of Officers.

 

 

Article III- Fees

 

SECTION 1.  DEGREES

The fees for the degrees in this chapter shall be $50.00.  Breakdown is as follows: (a) $25.00 initiation fee, (b) $25.00 life membership dues.

 

SECTION 2.  COLLECTION

All fees should be collected prior to initiation.

 

 

Article IV- Sweetheart

 

SECTION 1.  ELIGIBILTY

Eligibility for Chapter Sweetheart shall be in accordance with the State Sweetheart Program.

 

SECTION 2.  ELECTION

The Chapter Sweetheart shall be elected in August for a term of one year.

 

SECTION 3.  LCC

After elected, the Chapter Sweetheart must enroll in and complete the Leadership Correspondence Course, Part 1 (or the next Part not previously completed), if not previously taken.

 

SECTION 4.  FEES

Any Sweetheart fees for any state function attended by the Sweetheart shall be paid for by the Chapter.

 

SECTION 5.  VOTING ELIGIBLITY

A member must have passed both his Initiatory and DeMolay Degree queries to be eligible to vote in the election of Sweetheart




Article V- Amendments

 

SECTION 1.  PROCEDURE.

Any proposed amendments to these Bylaws must be presented in open Chapter, after which, a committee shall be appointed to review and revise the amendment.  A draft of the amendment will be submitted to the Advisory Council for initial approval.  If rejected, it will be sent back to the committee for further review and revision until approved by the Advisory Council.  After Advisory Council approval, it will be presented to the Chapter for balloting.

 

SECTION 2.  VOTING REQUIREMENTS

Prior to the vote, thirty days notice shall be given to all eligible voting members.  A two-thirds majority vote will be required to pass an amendment.  If an amendment receives a simple majority but lacks the necessary two-thirds, it may be returned to the committee for further review and revision and resubmitted into the process. 

 

SECTION 3.  COMMITTEE

The committee shall consist of two Councilors and at least three other chapter members.  The member who initially proposed the amendment will not be included on the committee.
